Late Night TV

November 13, 2009

Back when I still had access to cable television, when I was up past 2am, I’d watch TNT.

TNT would always have some mediocre, but entertaining movie on or a Law & ORder marathon.  Something to keep me entertained.

However, I haven’t had access to cable television since December. After 2am, everything on broadcast television is either paid programming, or celebrity bullshit like Extra and Access Hollywood.

Usually, I’ve been going to bed at 2am, so this hasn’t been an issue, but I haven’t been able to sleep early lately, which I suspect may be a side effect of the SSRI I’m on (more on that later)

So I’ve started watching WGBH, which is the local PBS channel.  There are four of them, the standard one, world, create, and kids.

There are three shows in particular that I really enjoy.  Nova, Frontline, and History Detectives.

Right now, Nova’s showing a three part series on the development of humanity, which I’ve throughly enjoyed.  Frontline has episodes devoted to different topics, the most recent being health care systems around the world in rich democracies.  History Detectives tracks down the history of three objects every episode.  It only comes on the kids channel, and it’s pretty simplistic, but it appeals to the history geek inside me.

Speaking of history, I’m gonna put 21H on my readmission application to MIT.  It’s a bold move, that seems strange, but it’s the right thing to do.
